The Social Network – my review

Movies that inspire always stand out of the crowd. Watch this movie if you are one of those who aspire to take the road less travelled, especially the creation of Facebook prefixed with "The". This movie is about the Genius of current times, whos changed the way how people keep in touch, whos changed the way how people express themselves, how people show their attitude, and even to the extent of how people market/ hire.

The story of the Youngest Billionaire was not all meadows and daisies, but still that did not deter him.

Crisp narration going back and forth from the parallel lawsuits that the protagonist is facing, unravelling the events that led to the launch of Facebook and the controversies, betrayals post the launch makes you never feel bored, limited characters revolving the protagonist keep the plot intact. The movie opens with the break-up with his girlfriend and ends with his desire to patch up by sending her a Friend Request. His girlfriend being on Facebook is a victory in itself though.

Nothingness!!

Nothingness !!

As I opened a new page
to write a few words,

Looking at the blue sky
for some inspiration.

The vast expanse of
Nothingness!!

The sky with its blank depiction
readily accepts,

The beautiful and light clouds
which give extreme joy.

Also the dark and heavy clouds
which bring down tears.

It hosts the flying high moments
and also the rainbow moments.

Life, in a way could be
compared to the Sky,

The vast expanse of
Nothingness!!

Ready to accept the
cloud and rainbow moments.

Rakta Chraritra (Hindi)

Indian Cinema is fast reforming. Gone are the inspirations from the West, we now have our very own local/ regional figures whose biographies have become the protagonists of the "Rakta Chraritra" series of Movies. Ram Gopal Varma "ANNA" has gone far ahead of other sequel makers and has given the date of next movie series release at the end of this movie.

The movie is very intense from the beginning till the end, as the title mentions, history of blood. Definitely not for the faint hearted.

Plot is set up in Anandpur district of AP, how the turn of events in Pratap Ravi’s (Vivek Oberoi) personal life, became benefical for a political party (role of Andhra Politician enacted by Shatrugan sinha) and how he enters politics to vanquish his final enemy. The protagonists’ life initially is all blood and gory. Portrayal of these incidents comes easy to RGV, as he tries to portray them as true to life and as torturing as possible.

50% of the characters in the Hindi movie are telugu character artists, Kota Srinivas Rao does a great job, Tanikal Bharani fits the role. There is even Subhalekha Sudhakar. This again is a new trend in Original Hindi movies. The final twist is the RAKTA CHARITRA 2 title in the end of where SURYA is the protagonist and Vivek Oberoi becomes his target. Seems very promising – may be national award for SURYA ??

Back-ground score is awesome and indulging, few scenes of the movie are so gory that they naturally increase your heart rate and create profuse breathing, so definitely not a family entertainer movie…. best elevation scene for Vivek Oberoi being " Pratap ANNA, mujhe maaf kar do! "

Endhiran – My Review and observations

Endhiran / Robo – has started commanding respect for its logic, visual effects, hi-tech science fiction content. This was missing all along Rajni’s career for his anti-gravity stunts. So when his fans from Tamilnadu worshipped him for his anti-gravity stunts, rest of the world laughed away. I would have done the same thing if i was not in Tamilnadu for his previous movies. This movie has swallowed all his previous draw-backs on the anti-gravity stunts front!

Now coming to the movie, its an awesome entertainer, very futuristic and has Rajni’s villainy mannerisms which was missing for years ! Fans would love to see any variety and in this movies there are loads.

The entire movie focuses on the robo which is rightfully the bread-winner for the producers, especailly when it  turns bad and villainy. Aishwarya rai looks gorgeous. Back-ground score from Rahman makes the plot deeper. Rasool pookutty’s sound makes robo sound life like.

Above all there’s a 30 second jubiliation when SUPERSTAR RAJNI title is screened on First day First show, which can be experienced only in theatres.

NYC’ed – from 20090717 till 20091016

I know its been a year now.. but still wanted to capture & share the emotions of my first overseas trip.. i still remember every minute of my time in New York City!!

It was the most optimistic period of my 26 year life-cycle. I had completed 3 years in my firm on 20090515 and was hoping for something good..but what happened to me was awesome..there i was standing infront of my colleagues and bosses in a conf room, where my higher boss informed that i would travel to NEW YORK CITY in July for 3 months…

I had taken off on D day.. i.e. 20090717, could’nt take the anxiety. I am very scared when good things happen to me, scared because the memories of those good things may not last long. Learnt quite a lot of things the harder way.. been literally down on the streets and raised back. Roller-coasters are the main dish on my Menu..

Informed my Godfatherly-figure, my ex-boss, the owner of the multiplex where i was working while in college, that I was going overseas for a project for 3 months. Got a reply instantly from him wishing me best of luck.

My parents and bro wished me off in the Shamshabad Airport. It was the proudest moment for my father, he actually mentioned that to me. It boosted my confidence and I was ready to accept any challenge for the next 3 months. When I entered the business-class of the Qatar airlines flight there were many moments from my painful past that were getting offset !! The days when I was cycling many kilometers to deliver newspapers for a living, the days when I was pleading my well wishers to finance my college admission fees, the days when there used to be nothing to eat unless some household item was sold to the scrap for a few rupees… never felt ashamed since it was the most righteous approach to fight your fate but these moments left an everlasting pain.. all these moments were getting offset, the moment I entered this flight.. The moments of extreme happyness were curing the wounds of extreme pain..

So here I was, feeling extremely proud as the flight took-off from Hyderabad Airport, who was not just a happy-go-lucky guy but rightfully earned the position where he was in.. My fellow traveller was a person from my firm, boosted my level of confidence. I was going to an alien place and this thought chilled my spine. Quick learner to the facilities available in the Business class, alcohol was never ordered by me though! New geographic location, new time zone, it was time to practically implement the learnings from Geography class while in school.

Doha was a beautiful sight from the top, it was as-though some-one freshly drew lines on a desert to help the cars move. Oil tanks in the sea, xerophytic adaptations were quite evidently observed. xerophytes are the plants that grow in deserts. Here comes an interesting story that freaked me and the yankies equally. The business class lounge in Qatar retains the passport from US bound passengers. God knows why !! here I was in an alien country’s Lounge, without any passport, what if they did not return the passport ?? Thankfully they did return the passport while boarding the NYC bound flight.. I learnt the lesson for life.. never leave your passport in any-one else’s custody in a foriegn nation.. post tihs incident, I never had any issue with my only Identification document for the next 3 months stay.

Fatigue driving in now.. would write more in the days to come !!!

INCEPTION – my take

Its an awesome concept – nobody could have ever imagined such a plot ! Stealing a secret by sharing a persons dream and also more importantly planting a new idea. An idea will never be erased. Thank God this movie had sub-titles unlike Shutter Island !

Now as long as everyone is in the first level of dreaming, things look fine to me. Fisher and Saito are’nt professionals. When they are sharing a dream with the professionals, random things can happen. There is no way you can control their dreams or may be the director did not feel the need to explain how the remaining professional dreams did it. How did they regulate Fisher and Saito to continue dreaming about the same subject that Saito was contemplating ??

coming to totem, its a good way for the audience to identify if the actor is dreaming or is he in the real world. But for the dreamer himself, there is no bondage that a totem will definitely not follow physics laws ? Gravity is very much present, people do fall in the 3rd and 4th level, so may be even a totem could fall off even in a dream ??

A lot of times I have kept dreaming that I have woken up already and am getting ready for school… the best way to check if you are still asleep is to ask some one to slap you .. what say ??

Leader REVIEW

My take on Telugu movie — Leader —

Leader inspires but does accomplish his own mission….. WINS hearts but loses grip in the second half… some sense of incompleteness in the story as one comes out of the theatres. Politics in India is bad, dirty, we have seen these in numerous movies, what is the creative solution to dirty politics (apart from bringing out Black money to light as already seen in Sivaji, Kandasaamy and Kick), thats what makes a movie larger than life…

The country needs Young Leaders but not politicians (Needless to say, Genius Mani Ratnam already attempted this concept in Yuva) .. I would say Shekar Kammula need not have chosen Politics as the theme when he did not have out of the box ideas… Background score, BOLD dialogues targetted @ the Politicians and Lead actor Rana’s commitment are the only saving grace for this movie.

May not be as big hit as HAPPY DAYS.

Anand (Classic)

There are some movies which never fail to touch you, despite the times. I got a sneak peek into Mr. Anand’s life for 2.5 hours. Characters so true to life, one feels as though the incidents are happening in one of their own / their friends’ lives.

Here is a man with selfless intentions, wants to spread the happiness of life and in this way wins the hearts and prayers of those who were absolute strangers. can’t keep mum for a second, yet does not hurt anyone, even prays for the same. He wonders how can people live without speaking even a word.

keep your sorrow to yourself and spread (Anand) cheer to the world.  Hats off Babu Moshai….

3 idiots – Hindi – my rating 3.5 on 5

Amid Telangana Bandh and Holiday crowd, I was lucky to have got a ticket for the Morning show.

As soon as the movie starts, you get the Dil Chahta Hai feeling. Two friends meet after many years and they cant wait to meet their third friend, who is the most interesting and thought provoking.

The movie definitiely has fresh vibes and takes the audience through the experience of IIT (renamed in the movie as ICE). One’s got to do what one desires and not something that is forced upon them by teachers or parents. This is demonstrated very well and at times quoting examples of student suicides.

The story also holds a suspense and everything falls in place logically in the end, thanks to Mr. Perfectionist.
Kareena looks fresh and does a neat job.

There are two characters whose ideologies clash from the start till end ( a la Munnabhai ), Aamir Khan vs. Bomman Irani, the latter realizing his mistake in the end. Colleges should be the centers of Innovation and not factories that produce future Labourers. One could say Aamirs character as an extension of Nikhumbh in Taare Zameen Par.

The humour is fresh and tickles your funny bones. All izz well except for one, Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and Madhavan definitely dont look like COLLEGE students 🙂
Where are they selling Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone.. after watching the movie, I feel like reading this book 🙂

My take on IPL season 2

"I ..err.. declare the IPL season 2 … uhh.. Open "  – Lalit modi.  Was the confidence missing in the tone because apparently its taking place in South Africa instead of India ? People say Mr. Lalit Modi did very well in organizing the matches perfectly outside the country, however he has disappointed many first time stadium visitors like me in India. The life, the cheer, the excitement is definitely missing in the crowd this time.. however the franchisees are enjoying it since they may not have to incur losses. Hope IPL stays in India next season !

Was happy for the Mumbai Indians’ first win, they won with Sachin paaji being in great form, thank you paaji.  Thanks to Abhishek nayar for the first set of sixes in the tournament. It was fun to watch Bhajji vs Hayden in the chase. J.P. Dumny disappointed in the first match though. Add to the glamour from cheer leaders, there was an unexpected visitor on the ground, who stayed for quite sometime, disrupting the course of the match, creating some light moments in the crowd and an uphill task for the security guards.

Not going to waste my energy typing about the Royal challengers match. Ha !
